Get Ready for a Robust Holiday Travel Season
The holiday season is just around the corner, and travel demand is expected to reach new heights. According to Adam Ryan, managing director of Delta Air Lines, travel outlooks indicate a “robust and strong” holiday travel season with people traveling across the country to meet their families for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s.
For those flying in and out of Salt Lake City International Airport or having a layover in Utah’s capital city, there’s great news. The airport has opened 13 new gates as part of the Concourse A-East project, also known as the second phase of the new Salt Lake City International Airport. Delta Air Lines has leased all the new gates, making Salt Lake City its largest Western hub.
The new gates eliminate the need for hardstands and provide a more seamless experience for passengers. No more boarding buses to reach your flight or the terminal. It’s a significant milestone for the project and a big win for passengers.
Amp Up Your Travel Experience with Exciting Concessions
Along with the new gates, the second phase of the airport expansion also unveiled several new restaurants and stores. Whether you’re craving a burger, a slice of pizza, or a cup of artisan coffee, the expanded airport has got you covered. Here are some of the new options:
- The Atrium
- Auntie Anne’s
- Burger King
- Blue Iguana
- Hudson News
- Hudson Nonstop
- Hugo Coffee Roasters
- Jimmy John’s
- Millcreek Coffee Roasters
- Minute Suites
- Protein Bar & Kitchen
- Red Rock Brewery
- Rockwell Ice Cream
- SLC Public Market (x2)
- Utah Jazz Store
- Vessel Kitchen
- Wow Bao
And that’s not all. P.F. Chang’s will be opening soon in the new section, adding even more culinary delight to the airport. Bill Wyatt, the airport’s executive director, is proud to offer travelers a wide range of options, as food, retail, and beverage opportunities have become increasingly important in modern travel.
Expanding for the Future
The airport’s growth doesn’t stop here. The next focus is completing Concourse B, including a new tunnel that will connect the two concourses. Over the next few years, more than two dozen new Concourse B gates, retail stores, and restaurants will be added. By 2027, the airport will grow from 52 jet bridges to more than 90, reflecting the rapid increase in airline service in Salt Lake City.
The continued expansion of the airport aligns with the growth of Salt Lake City and the state of Utah as a whole. Salt Lake City International Airport was recently ranked the third-best large airport in the country in terms of passenger satisfaction by J.D. Power. Mayor Erin Mendenhall sees the airport’s success as a reflection of the city and state’s growth and believes the new gates and concessions will provide an even more seamless experience for visitors.
With the completion of the Concourse A-East project and exciting plans for the future, Salt Lake City International Airport is set to become one of the best airports in the country. So, get ready to explore the wonders of Utah with a smooth travel experience and delicious dining options.
