The First Latter-day Saint Temple in Austria

The location for the historic first Latter-day Saint temple in Austria was revealed by the First Presidency on Monday. The temple will be constructed at Silbergasse 2 in Vienna, home to the Döbling Ward meetinghouse. The plan is to build a multistory temple on 0.80 acres. An exterior rendering of the expected 15,300-square-foot building will be released later, along with a date for the groundbreaking ceremony. This announcement underscores President Russell M. Nelson’s emphasis on temple-building and temple covenants.

The Winchester Virginia Temple

The Winchester Virginia Temple site was announced as part of President Nelson’s aggressive temple-building agenda. The temple will be built on an 11.27-acre site at 200 Merrimans Lane. Plans call for a single-story temple of approximately 30,000 square feet. Winchester will be the third temple in Virginia, joining the Richmond Virginia Temple, which was dedicated in May, and the upcoming Roanoke Virginia Temple. President Nelson has announced a total of 153 new temples since becoming the church president in January 2018.

The Harrisburg Pennsylvania Temple

The Harrisburg temple will be the third temple in Pennsylvania, joining the Philadelphia Pennsylvania Temple and the upcoming Pittsburgh Pennsylvania Temple. Located on a 5.36-acre property at 605 Rutherford Road in Harrisburg, the temple is planned to be a single-story building of approximately 20,000 square feet. The state of Pennsylvania has a rich history with the Latter-day Saint Church, with a dozen congregations existing in the early years after Joseph Smith organized the church in 1830.

The Fort Worth Texas Temple

While not directly related to the temple announcements for Austria, Virginia, and Pennsylvania, it’s worth mentioning that church leaders broke ground for the Fort Worth Texas Temple on October 28, 2023. The temple’s construction will take place on a 9.37-acre site located north of Southwest Hulen Street and Greenridge Drive in Burleson, Texas. Texas is home to 378,000 Latter-day Saints and will soon have six operating temples, including the newly announced Austin and Prosper temples.
