Leatherby’s Family Creamery is a restaurant-style ice cream shop that’s fun for the whole family. They offer huge portions served in a gorgeous, over-the-top presentation style that is tough to beat. The creamery was born in Sacramento, California in 1982 when “Daddy Dave” Leatherby and his wife Sally wanted to bring the joy and happiness of ice cream to all. The first franchise location was in Taylorsville, Utah. Leatherby’s has long been a staple in Salt Lake valley, and now it’s come to Orem, located in the old Mimi’s Cafe building. Hop on over and enjoy a gourmet ice cream creation.

About their menu:

Leatherby’s offers both a dinner menu and an extensive ice cream menu. Their most popular ice cream choices are specialty creations. These are usually scoops of chocolate or vanilla ice cream smothered in toppings and one or more of their homemade sauces. They also offer old-fashioned sodas, floats, and shakes made from your choice of one of their many ice cream flavors.

Our Take:

This old-fashioned ice cream shop definitely has the wow factor. The ice cream is homemade, creamy, and delicious, while their homemade sauces (we liked the caramel and strawberry best) are what really make this place a must-try. The trick is finding a creation that combines your favorite flavors. We tried a few options and our favorites were James’s Strawberry Shortcake and Celeste’s Cookie Concoction.

Pricing varies based on what you order, but most of the specialty creations range from $6-$10. Shakes, floats, and sodas are a bit  cheaper and a good option if you aren’t prepared to eat one of their huge options.

Because it is a dine-in restaurant, you should also plan on tipping like you would at a regular restaurant.
